The story behind Family-UP's new Lord's Army: Basic Training Manual

As Christians we are constantly battling laziness, distractions, and the temptations of the world to live for self. Prayer and the Word of God are our greatest weapons against these foes (Ephesians 6:17-18). With this spiritual battle in mind, we set out to wake the sleeping, inspire the lazy, and kindle afresh a passion for God in those who have forgotten their first love. What began as a few discussion questions for our small group Bible study unexpectedly morphed into a 10-week Bible study for whole families! Though this was never our original intent, we can plainly see it was the Lord’s plan all along!

As the content of this study unfolded, we found ourselves asking again and again, “What has happened to the Church—the Body of Christ?” What the Bible clearly defines as God's people, purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ, almost always refers to a building these days:

          * Where do you go to church?
          * What denomination is your church?
          * What programs does your church have?

We are so conditioned to think of church as a PLACE, we have forgotten that the Church God loves is not a building at all. The Church is people… HIS people! And we have forgotten that the Bible doesn’t command us to GO to church; it teaches us how to BE the Church. We’ve been so concerned about where we are supposed to go and what we are supposed to do; we have forgotten who we’re supposed to be. We’ve been focused on the outside, but God is most interested in our hearts.

The Lord’s Army: Basic Training Manual is an inductive Bible study tool designed to help you examine your own heart and relationship with the Lord. It is written to the not-yet believer, the sleeping believer, the lazy believer, and the believer who wants to grow in knowledge and love for the Lord. This call to “ATTENTION!” is just the resource your family needs to get real with the Lord. Let's be sure we aren't faking it, folks!

*SO WHAT IS INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY?

You've heard the phrase: "Scripture interprets Scripture." This is the main idea behind the inductive method of Bible study. Though other study resources are helpful, when we study inductively, the Bible is our primary research tool.

Many Bible studies guide simple observation of the text, and then tell you what to think; they interpret the Bible for you. An inductive study, on the other hand, leads you to discover for yourself (through other Scriptures and the Holy Spirit) what GOD thinks. Inductive Bible study adds to simple observation by promoting Scripture-based interpretation and motivating life-changing application.
